Residential Voluntary Recycling

About the Program

Gastonia provides recycling services to its citizens once per week by contracting this service to a private company. Recyclables will be collected the same day as your garbage. Do not put recyclables in your rollout container. A different crew will collect these items in your recycling container. Our curbside recycling service is a voluntary program. The items collected for recycling are newspapers, aluminum cans, steel cans, plastic soft drink bottles, plastic milk jugs, green, clear and brown glass. Starting July 1, 2007, in addition to the items previously collected for recycling, we will start collecting magzines, mixed paper (cereal boxes, junk mail), plastic detergent bottles, aluminum foil and trays.  If you elect to sign-up for the program, you will be charged a small fee ($2/month) for the service.

To sign-up for the program contact: Angie Ledford 704.866.6774 General Services

Citizens are encouraged to recycle and to reduce the amount of garbage they produce. An additional incentive is a State Law effective July 1, 1994, prohibiting aluminum cans from being disposed of in a landfill. You can also sign-up for curbside recycling by calling the Solid Waste Division’s Customer Service Center at 704.866.6774 or 704.866.6894

The City of Gastonia has formed a partnership with Gaston County to provide a recycling center in Gastonia. This center is now located at 410 E. Long Ave (at the Farmer's Market). This center will collect the same items collected for recycling at the curb (listed above) as well as cardboard.
