Residential Roll-out Garbage Service
In General
Residential roll-out service is provided to the
residents of Gastonia once per week by use of a 96 gallon container.
The City provides a 96 gallon container to each residential unit
served at no charge. If your home does not have a green City of
Gastonia container, please contact us and we will have one delivered.

Guidelines
The following items should be placed in your roll-out
container:
- Place household trash and garbage in tied plastic bags
or paper bags.
- Put bags in the container making sure nothing hangs
down the side.
- Close the lid.
- Be sure to drain and bag wet garbage
prior to placing it in the container.
- If you should have more garbage
than what will fit in your container, place the garbage beside the
container and another crew will collect the material.
Trucks
Gastonia has five automated refuse collection
vehicles to collect the garbage from the roll-out containers.
To ensure that your roll-out container is collected, please follow
these guidelines:
- The collection truck must have access to your
container.
- Place it three feet away from trees, mailboxes, parked
cars, utility lines, or anything else that could get in the way.
- Place the container within two feet of the curb with the handle
facing away from the curb.
- The collection truck is on a schedule
route. It is difficult for the truck to return to your address if
your garbage is missed because it was not put out correctly, or was
put out late.
Collection
The City's Solid Waste Ordinance requires:
- Your container should be placed at the curb no later
than 7:00 AM on your collection day.
- Your container should be placed at the curb no
earlier than the day prior to collection.
- Remove your empty container
from the curb by midnight on day of collection.
- Containers should
not be left on the curb during weekends.
Your cooperation in abiding by these requirements help keep Gastonia beautiful. The City can issue citations if this becomes a problem.
Physically Disabled Verification
A doctor's verification form is available by calling
the Solid Waste Division's Customer Service Center at 704.866.6774
or 704.866.6894. Upon receiving the completed doctor's verification
form, special collection will be provided for the physically disabled.
