Recreation
This building now houses the Recreation Department's Administration and Athletic Divisions. It was built in 1931 as a memorial to Gaston County's war veterans. The building also houses American Legion Post 23, a military museum, and the Rambling Rebels drum and bugle corps museum.
To provide a variety of active and passive recreation opportunities and to preserve valuable open space for the enjoyment of the residents of Gastonia.
Recreation has been a part of Gastonia's community life since its beginning. Athletic and recreational programs, especially in baseball, were sponsored by the Citys textile mills beginning in the late 1920s. Recreation was also sponsored by Gastonias churches and service clubs such as the American Legion.

Picnic Shelters, ball parks and community centers may be rented by families, churches, companies or other groups for a variety of social and business functions.
The flag is presented at the Veteran's Day ceremony.
