Chief Sult was sworn in as Gastonia's 20th Chief of Police on August 23, 2004. He was previously a Captain/Division Commander with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department with 27 years of law enforcement experience. Chief Sult's career includes service with Patrol, a homicide investigator, a sergeant of the Street Drug Interdiction Unit, and commander of the Criminal Intelligence Unit and Violent Crimes Task Force.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Gardner Webb University and a master's degree in Business Administration from Pfeiffer University. He attended the Senior Management Institute for Policing and serves as co-chair of the Pfeiffer University Criminal Justice Advisory Board. He is strongly committed to Community Problem Oriented Policing.
