1. BRIDGE REPLACEMENT:
The bridge on Tulip Drive, west of Rankin Lake Road, is scheduled to be replaced in the summer of 2007. A temporary detour route will be constructed south of the existing bridge to accommodate continuous traffic flow. Minor delays are expected.
2. RESURFACING:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is scheduled to resurface Garrison Boulevard from York Street to Union Road this summer. Union Road from Robinson Road to Rivermont Drive and York Street from Third Avenue to Long Avenue are, also, scheduled to be resurfaced.
3.CONSTRUCTION OF TRIPLE LEFT TURN LANE:
The construction of a triple left turn from the I-85 southbound ramp to travel north of Chester Street has been schedueld for construction by the NCDOT. Construction should commence this month. The construction time is estimated at six (6) months. Even though, the majority of the construction work will be accomplished during nighttime hours, major delays may occur.
4. BESSEMER CITY ROAD WIDENING:
The widening of Bessemer City Road from two lanes to five lanes, by the NCDOT, is scheduled to begin construction in the spring of 2007. The project limits are Franklin Boulevard to Dallas-Bessemer City/Oates Road. The contract completion date is October 15, 2009. Major delays will occur. Utilization of alternate routes is encouraged.
5. COMPUTERIZED TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEM:
The NCDOT, in conjunction with the City, has awarded a contract to upgrade the existing computerized traffic signal system. Construction is underway. Completion date is December, 2008. Lane closures are expected at various intersections, with minor traffic delays.
6. WEST FRANKLIN BOULEVARD STREETSCAPE PROJECT:
The West Franklin Boulevard Streetscape Project is scheduled to begin construction this summer, which includes sidewalk/curb & gutter replacement, decorative street lighting and traffic signal mast arms installation, and landscaping. Estimated completion date is late fall, 2007. Lane closures will occur, that will create minor traffic delays.
