Be sure your heating/cooling system duct work is sealed and insulated. Clean your filters each month (use your monthly utility bill as a reminder). Make sure nothing is blocking air flow from the registers.
Set your thermostat at 78 degrees in the summer and use fans to keep air circulating. Save energy by participating in the Citys Load Management Program. This program gives you credit on your electric bill in exchange for giving the City the privilege of interrupting power for short periods of time. For additional information, please contact the Electric Department at 704.866.6823.
Make sure your fireplace damper is closed when youre not burning a fire. Turn off lights, TV and other appliances when they are not being used and shut off vents to empty rooms. Insulate to keep heat outside in the summer and inside in the winter. Storm windows, caulking, weather stripping and double paned windows can save you money.A dryer uses a lot of energy. Air dry clothes outside in nice weather whenever possible. When you use your dryer, put loads in consecutively to take advantage of the heat thats already there. Clean the dryer filter after every load so the machine can run efficiently and dont overload!
Keep your refrigerator and freezer as full as possible, and be sure the gaskets fit tightly. Frost build-up will make a non-frost-free refrigerator less efficient.
