Pay your Utility Bill Online or Pay By Phone
Now you can pay your utility bill online or by phone. No need to come to the payment center, stand in line or worry about what time the office opens or closes. Pay from wherever you are 24/7 by accessing online payments or calling the City of Gastonia Automated Customer Service Line: 704-866-6714 or 704-866-6716. You can use your MasterCard, VISA, Discover or ATM card or your checking or savings account information. To pay by phone you'll need your:
- Utility account number
- Billing zip code
- Card Number, expiration date & 3-digit security code for debit/credit card payments
- Bank transit routing number (bottom left hand corner of check) and account number (usually follows routing number) for payments from checking/savings account (see sample below)

Q. Can I pay online or by phone if I'm behind on my bill or due to be disconnected?
A. Yes, but you'll need to talk first by phone to a customer service representative who will determine the amount you need to pay to maintain your service.
Online Payments: The account balance displayed includes charges as of the previous business day. This amount may not reflect the total due to avoid disconnection. To confirm the payment amount required; please speak with a customer service representative during regular business hours before you pay online or by phone. Pay-by-Phone Payments: During business hours, the pay-by-phone system will automatically transfer your call to a service representative at the appropriate time. After hours, on the weekend or on a holiday, the system will inform you that you must speak with a customer service representative during regular business hours before you can pay by phone.
Q. When will my payment show up on my account?
A. The online or phone payment will show up on your account within 2 hours of making the payment when it is received between 8:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. After business hours, on the weekend or a holiday, payments will be posted to your account by 8:30 a.m. the next business day.
Q. Why is there a fee to pay online or by phone?
A. The fee is not charged by the City but is charged by the company that processes the payments and makes this convenient service available to our customers.
Q. Why do you need the security code on a credit or debit card payment?
A. Checking the security code helps protect the cardholder from identity theft.
Q. What do I do if my online or phone payment is not credited or my utilities are cut off even though I paid by phone?
