Downtown Beautification

An integral part of the City’s downtown revitalization plan is enhancing the physical appearance of Downtown so it is an appealing and attractive place to do business, live and visit. The City works daily to maintain clean, pedestrian-friendly streets and sidewalks; safe, inviting city parks; and ample, accessible, well-lit parking.

The City employs a designated downtown beautification crew, experienced in public infrastructure and landscape maintenance, who work Monday through Friday, and often on the weekends, to keep Downtown safe, clean and attractive. In addition, Keep Gastonia Beautiful staff and volunteers assist in the effort by taking on special projects that enhance the appearance of Downtown. Keep Gastonia Beautiful has also been instrumental in raising funds to provide significant works of public art in several areas of Downtown, including the popular kinetic tree sculpture that is the centerpiece of Center City Park.

The City’s Master Gardeners also often contribute their time and expertise to assist the City’s Downtown beautification crew in planting and maintaining the numerous flower beds that line downtown streets and dot the City parks.

If you work, live, or visit downtown and have questions or ideas about Downtown beautification or if you notice any damage to City property or improvements that need to be made, contact the Downtown Beautification crew by e-mail at downtown@cityofgastonia.com. If you’d like to volunteer time or resources to help keep Downtown Gastonia beautiful, contact the Downtown Beautification or the Keep Gastonia Beautiful offices in the Garland Business Center.
