Our first firefighters were members of the volunteer company formed in 1900 with George G. Glenn as Chief. Equipment was scarce. The fire hose was wound on a small hand reel which had to be pushed or carried to the fire. In 1905, the City bought a team of "fine fire horses" and L. L. Jenkins donated a fire wagon and some harnesses. Today, we have eight (8) fire stations located throughout the City. Over 130 firefighters operate our state of the art fire suppression, ladder, rescue, hazardous material vehicles.
