Fill a Swimming Pool

The City of Gastonia allows customers to fill a swimming pool by using a fire hydrant with the appropriate approval or by using a garden hose and making application for an adjustment after the pool is filled. Following are the procedures and associated forms for each method.

Filling a Swimming Pool from a Fire Hydrant
In order to use water from hydrants in the City of Gastonia, a current permit is required.  There is no charge for the permit.  Charges are assessed when water is used.  The current rate is $30.00 per hydrant hook up plus the current volume charge of water for non-residential customers per 1,000 gallons.  If you have questions about hydrant usages please call 704.866.6843.  Using a hydrant without prior approval may result in a $750 fine. Filling a Swimming Pool from a Garden Hose
Although this method is slower than using a fire hydrant, there is little difference in the cost. The City of Gastonia will provide a pool fill adjustment for use of 3700 gallons or more for addresses that have City sewer services.  Only one adjustment is allowed per calendar year for each address. Please fill out the Pool Fill Adjustment form and fax it to Utility Customer Service at 704.854.6681 and the adjustment will show on the next utility bill.
