About our Division
The Employee Safety & Health Service
Division focuses on assuring a safe work environment for
employees. Our goal is to prevent or minimize accidents
and to maximize employee health and well-being.
Key aspects of this program include:
- Assuring compliance to required federal
and state programs covering issues such as occupational
blood borne pathogens, respiratory protection, personal
protective equipment, chemical hazard communications,
confined space entry, DOT drug and alcohol testing
- Maintaining a pre-placement medical screening
program for new hires, transfers, and employees returning
from medical leave
- Providing an effective First Aid Program
for each major department within the city
- Maintaining an effective safety communications
program to provide and highlight necessary safety information
to all employees on a regular basis
- Providing continuous safety/loss prevention
training programs for all employees
- Communicating responsibilities for safety
and loss prevention to all employees
- Facilitating an effective program identifying
hazards and safeguarding against them through departmental
and citywide safety committee reviews
- Maintaining an effective Workers Compensation
Claims Control Program
- Facilitating an effective modified work
program for injured employees
- Facilitating wellness activities covering
flu shots, blood pressure checks, cancer assessment checks,
smoking cessation program
