Sierra Club names Gastonia one of the nation’s “Cool Cities”
The City of Gastonia has been named the latest “Cool City” in North Carolina. The “Cool Cities” title is a Sierra Club program that acknowledges U.S. mayors who endorse the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Gastonia’s mayor, Jennie Stultz, signed the agreement earlier this year. The U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement calls for a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, local initiatives to utilize green technologies and urges Congress to pass bi-partisan greenhouse gas reduction legislation.
