The City of Gastonia has been in the process of producing a plan that will serve as a comprehensive vision for the streets, sidewalks, greenways, parks and other public areas (generally referred to as the “public realm”) in Downtown Gastonia. The aim of the plan is to serve as a template for both the near and long-term improvement of these public areas, specifically to address deficiencies in pedestrian and bicycle accommodation and overall aesthetics. During recent months, a series of meetings has been held in order to establish a vision for Downtown Gastonia’s public realm. Included was a two-day public workshop that was held in the Gastonia Police Department Community Room where citizens were invited to come and share their ideas for improving the streetscapes and public realm of Downtown Gastonia. The workshop produced a rich assortment of detailed recommendations for the streets and public realm in the Downtown.
The Downtown Streetscape & Public Realm Plan will be presented to the Gastonia City Council in September 2010 for its approval. Use the link below to view the draft version of the proposed plan and e-mail any comments to the following address: planning@cityofgastonia.com
