By reusing and recycling more, Gastonia residents can have less trash and save space at the county landfill. But you have to recycle RIGHT.
As a general rule of thumb, recyclables put in the gray cart should be empty, clean and dry. The following list is helpful in determining if something is or isn’t recyclable. If you’re still unsure whether your item is recyclable or not, try the Waste Wizard tool bar below. If you still need help, please call customer service.
Type the name of a waste item and we'll tell you how to recycle or dispose of it.

Do not put these in the Gray cart:
No plastic bags. These can be returned to the retail store
No garbage. Do not bag your recyclables.
Nothing that can tangle easily. This includes hoses, wires, chains or electronics.
No clothing or linens. These can be donated at any thrift or consignment store
No food, liquid or diapers. All containers should be emptied before recycling.
This is not a complete list of items that should not be recycled. If you are still unsure please dispose of items in the green garbage cart instead of attempting to recycle them. Remember: When in doubt, throw it out!
