2014 Awards

The Gastonia Fire Department would like to announce the recipients of our Golden & Silver Star of Valor Awards.

Firefighter Nick Lane has been awarded the Gold Star of Valor Award, which is the highest honor given to a firefighter within the department.

Firefighter Jordin Barnes has been awarded the Silver Star of Valor Award.

Both received the awards for going above and beyond the call of duty on March 10th, 2014. On that day they were hiking off duty on Crowder's Mountain, when a climber who was practicing near the backside trail of the facility fell 70 feet. Firefighters Lane and Barnes witnessed the fall, alerted authorities, and assisted with medical care of the patient.

Mayor John Bridgeman and Fire Chief Phil Welch presented the awards on September 27th, 2014, at The Gastonia Fire Department Employee Picnic at Rankin Lake Park.
