How to continue recycling

 Q: Can I still recycle?

A:  Yes, at any Gaston County Convenience Site. In Gastonia, the closest location is the Farmers Market at 410 E. Long Avenue.

Q: What items are accepted at County-run recycling centers?

A:  Many items are accepted at these locations including glass, aluminum and steel cans, plastics 1 and 2, mixed paper, and cardboard. The Gaston County Solid Waste website has a complete list.

Q: Do I have to separate my recyclables by type before taking them to the recycling center?

A:  Yes, all materials must be separated, and must be empty, clean and dry. The site will be manned during working hours to ensure all recyclables are clean and placed in proper containers.

Q: What are the address and the hours for the recycling center at the Farmers Market?

A:  410 E. Long Avenue Gastonia, NC 28054. Mondays-Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Q: Is there a fee to take items to a recycling center?

A: Most recyclables can be dropped off at recycling centers at no charge. There is a fee to recycle electronics.

Q: Will Gastonia open more recycling centers?

A: The City of Gastonia is constructing a new recycling center at the Duke Street Facility off Gaston Day School Road, which will be operated by Gaston County. The City is also improving the traffic flow at the Gastonia Farmers Market to make drop-offs easier.

Q: Why offer a place where residents can drop off recyclables but not offer curbside pickup?

A:  Employees who work at the recycling centers will inspect all items being dropped off to make sure they are recyclable and also are not contaminated. This ensures that recyclable materials like glass, steel, aluminum, some types of paper, and some plastics are repurposed into new materials. It also means items taken by residents to drop-off recycling centers will not go to landfills.
