GPD's Office of Professional Standards (OPS) manages the hiring process for sworn, non-sworn or intern applicants by conducting thorough background investigations and sending completed applicant files to the Chief of Police. In addition, the OPS conducts administrative investigations as needed while maintaining secure records of internal matters and employee training.
The GPD offers a variety of job opportunities for police officers: Criminal Investigations, Vice/Narcotics, Identification Bureau, Community Coordinators, Street Crimes Unit, Homeland Security, Crime Prevention, Internal Affairs, K-9 Unit, SWAT Team, Bomb Squad, Crisis Negotiators, Shift Investigators, Shift Snipers, Honor Guard, Traffic and Training.
Starting Salary Levels for Officers:
  • No experience, high school degree: $41,816
  • No experience, 2 year degree: $43,907
  • No experience, 4 year degree: $47,198
