On Monday, March 27, 2017, a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive to examine Gastonia Police Department's compliance with 484 law enforcement standards. The assessment is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation, a highly prized recognition of professional excellence. As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments about the GPD's ability to meet the standards for accreditation in one of three ways:
- At a public information session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, in the GPD Community Room, 200 East Long Ave., Gastonia. Appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards;
- By telephone at (980) 289-2926 between the hours of 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29. Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards; or
