A Love Where You Live Project: GAB Mural Art Competition

The City of Gastonia and Gaston County invites all Gaston County artists or artist groups to enter a mural design, and if chosen, paint it on site in this unique outdoor environment.  This project is for artist exposure, community involvement and contribution to beautifying downtown Gastonia.  Free to enter and a huge publicity opportunity to new and seasoned artists alike!  Funding for our Love Where You Live Project was provided by Centralina Council of Governments.

Entry Rules & Requirements:

Open to all Gaston County artists and/or artist groups
Artists must submit quality image (pdf/jpg) of the proposed mural design to kimw@cityofgastonia.com
Entries must be artist(s) original work and not violate any copyrights

What You Need to Know:

Each artist/artist group to submit a proposed mural design to reflect Gaston County's natural amenities found in our parks, greenways, Crowder's Mountain, farms and open space.  Gastonia is a "Bee City" and we would like a component of that to be included in the mural.  We look forward to both solo and group mural project proposals.  The winner of the mural design will be chosen by two expert judges.  Final mural will be painted on site by artist(s) and mural materials (paint, brushes, etc.) will be supplied.  The space where the mural will be painted includes several outdoor large concrete planters and bollards that enclose a seating area at the rear entrance of the Gaston County Administration Building (GAB), 128 W Main Avenue, in downtown Gastonia.  Artists are strongly encouraged to visit the site prior to submitting their proposals.  We would prefer that artwork be a comprehensive broad based thought to flow through all planters and bollards.  Additional art, planting and placemaking efforts are planned for this space as part of a broader initiative to enliven and activate this space.  The work will be on display indefinitely and enjoyed by pedestrians coming to downtown events and restaurants, and by those doing business with the County.

Size:

1 planter: 21’ wide x 36” tall + 2 side faces at 47” wide x 36” tall,
2 planters: 11’ wide x 36” tall + 2 side faces at 47” wide x 36” tall
1 circular planter: @56’ circumference x 22” tall
3-8 bollards: 25” circumference x 42” tall
