Let’s face it litter is ugly, it pollutes our waterways, it’s expensive for our cities, towns, and communities to remove. Keep Gastonia Beautiful provides a simple way for anyone to make a difference in their own neighborhood and provide the inspiration for others to do the same. Help Keep Gastonia Beautiful by joining us for a local cleanup. Grab a friend or two and get out and pick up trash.
Today, we are as committed as ever to providing people with the resources to help prevent litter with the ultimate goal of helping to end littering in America.
26 volunteers + 5 staff + 2 hours = 638 lbs of trash!
Keep Gastonia Beautiful and the Stormwater department joined together for our first ever X-Stream Cleanup on Saturday, May 22, 2021
It was thrilling to watch the guys bring back load after load of items that our 26 volunteers collected from the Avon/Catawba Creekbeds. 638 lbs of trash were hauled off by Parks and Rec at the end of the day. Interesting finds: baby stroller, pool, shopping cart, pallet, 4 tires, picnic table, golf balls, a Halloween skull, lots of bottles and cans, rotting beaver (we left that) and a sleeping baby fawn!
On Saturday, October 2nd, from 9 a.m. - 12 noon at Lineberger Park, Keep Gastonia Beautiful will join the Catawba Riverkeepers for their Riversweep, the largest single-day clean-up initiative in the Southeast!. The Riversweep is a collective effort of dozens of non-profit, governmental, and for-profit organizations from 26 counties across North and South Carolina. The Catawba Riversweep is an example of the power of collaboration and cooperation and KGB is proud to be a Site Host this year!
This unique community engagement event is organized and led by the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Charlotte, NC that was founded in 1997 and is dedicated to the preservation and protection of the waters of the Catawba-Wateree River for those who enjoy and depend on her.
Register with the volunteer link below by September 12th to receive an official Riversweep shirt that is 100% Recycled + the satisfaction of knowing that our litter didn't make it to the Catawba and beyond!
